Along with this raft of legislative change, the Australian Securities and Investments Commission (ASIC) has also introduced new licensing requirements for accountants who work with and advise Self Managed Superannuation Fund (SMSF) Trustees. Only approx. 10% of accountants have complied with these changes to date.

 

As such if you, as many, consider your accountant would be your 1st port of call for Financial Advice, they will likely advise you, they are unable to provide the information you require & should consult a qualified Financial Adviser / Planner.

Exercise is the Key to boosting Longevity

 

A recent study in the BMJ (a leading medical journal), followed 15,000 older men and women in the UK for 20 years around their exercise habits. The results were astounding.

 

The study broke the participants up into 3 groups:

 

  1. Low levels of physical activity that dd not meet the World Health Organisations (WHO) minimum exercise standards.

  2. Medium were those that engaged in 150 minutes of moderate intensity exercise per week

  3. High were those that engaged in 300 minutes moderate intensity activity per week

 

The research collected data at 2 points: at the start and then again 10 years later. They then analysed the number of participants still living 20 years later. The statistic that brought the biggest smile to the faces of the health officials involved was the fact that participants that had moved from low levels at the initial test up to medium levels at the 2nd test 10 years later had a 28% lower rate of mortality. This was regardless of previous activity levels or other factors such as Cholesterol, diet, blood pressure or obesity.

 

So if you are in the low exercise category at the moment, it is never too late. Join a gym, start walking, jogging, swimming or cycling and enjoy the benefits of healthy longer life.
